Year 5 & 6 South Downs Adventure – Thursday 19th March 2026
An unforgettable day of exploration and discovery on the South Downs!
Year 5 and 6 pupils will embark on an exciting geographical adventure, tracking the River Hamble from its source and conquering the summit of Old Winchester Hill. This hands-on experience will bring our Geography curriculum to life as we learn about mountains and rivers in the most spectacular classroom of all – God’s beautiful creation!
What will we do?
- Locate and explore the source of the River Hamble
- Hike to the summit of Old Winchester Hill
- Take in breath-taking views and observe the landscape from the top
- Put our map reading skills into practice
- Sketch the natural world around us, building on our art learning
This trip perfectly combines our Geography and Art curricula, giving pupils a real-world context for their classroom learning and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Timing: Normal school day timings apply
What to wear and bring:
- Clothing: Non-school uniform – long-sleeved top, trousers, t-shirt and jumper (we may get muddy!)
- Coat: Waterproof/warm coat (hat and gloves if needed)
- Footwear: Sturdy walking shoes or boots
- Optional: Waterproof trousers
- Food: Packed lunch and a few snacks
- Drinks: Refillable water bottle
- Bag: Small rucksack to carry everything
- Seat: Something to sit on outdoors (plastic bag or similar)
